The concept of this intriguing book will surely evokes interest to sci-fi thriller fans. And is also tinge with paranormal. But while its unbelievably horrifying, I was also enthralled by this book. The mystery about kids missing in a small town and was never found again was disturbing , and to top it off, they were being used as a lab rats for an experiment called "teleportation". Sounds cool? Oh yeah, wait till the kid are about to be transported, while they explode as in literally explode into bits or just showed up someplace  legs tangled up, bodies inside-out, gross. Not cool anymore eh? What is happening to this small town with a terrible secret called Spurlake? A town that look up to an evil Reverend. Oh how I hate him!

What if she just exploded? At least that would be
inconvenient and they’d have to scrape her off the walls.
If I’m going to die, God, at least make it horrible and
messy, like that boy before, make it so gross they feel sick.
It’s the least you can do.
    Two seconds.
Please God, let me be with friends and not in limbo or
trapped in a machine. Please send Reverend Schneider to
a special hell when he dies. At least promise me that. It’s
    all I ask.
    One second.

One of the things I enjoyed about this book was that it is on a third-person narrative, so basically, I was able to read the thoughts and feelings of other characters as well, not limited to one. It gives the readers a better picture of the whole story. As the story unfolds, the characters and events will intertwine that gives the plot an exciting and gripping twist. The impression this book gave me was disturbingly realistic. Who knows what scientists can do nowadays?

The author created a wonderful set of characters, I found myself invested in them, especially in Genie and RIan's relationship. Genie is great, she's weird but that makes her really likeable and interesting. The fact that she was being abused and locked up in her room by her own mother was so infuriating and I felt for her. And also, I loved loved  Rian, Genie's boyfriend, ahh he is just perfect and so real. Oh man, the romance is so cute and well developed, they are so good together. Moucher the dog and the pig are so adorable.

This book was also emotional for me, the harrowing story of the kids being experimented like rats are just insane. The ending left me hanging! OMG. I need the second book NOW!
Fate makes plans for you and never consults.

If you are a fan of Unwind by Neal Shusterman, I think you will also enjoy this one.

Stacking The Shelves (1)

How are you guys? I hope you are all doing great. I just have to tell you that today was a wow day for me, I was so behind about this plagiarism news about TheStorySiren blogger Kristi. I know it could be old news for you but not for me as I got it just today. And wow did it blow my mind away. Since I am not participating in IN MY MAILBOX meme anymore, I thought I'd explain why. I believe that now that this sad unfortunate event has happened, the blogging community has been divided big time. Some would go on her side and that I respect, because we are entitled to what we believe in and also our opinions. And this is my only opinion, hence you do not have to agree with me. I may have not known every single details about this plagiarism news about her but I've read the bloggers' posts that she allegedly stole the contents from, and from what I understood, is that she did apologize but not really.
I speak only for myself, however, when I say that I won’t accept Kristi’s apology until she admits that she knowingly and with intent committed this plagiarism. - this is quoted from the author of beautifully-invisible.com

The Iron Fey #1
Published February 1st 2010 by Harlequin Teen

The Iron King is a book that tackles faeries and magic. And a brooding, hot prince. And also a super loyal charming prankster. And…okay, I’ll stop there before I start including the side characters in my fangirling as well which would lead to the eradication of all adverbs/adjectives in my vocabulary. Honestly, as a twitter friend of mine once said, Iron King has tons of reviews already. What’s there left to say? But of course, it wouldn’t hurt if one itsy-bitsy review like this would add up to the pile.

The Iron King opened a new, bizarre and captivating world to me. A world full of deception hidden in beauty. A magical world full of fantasy that’ll leave you breathless with the vivid clarity of Miss Julie Kagawa’s storytelling. This is one of the books that’ll stick to your mind and to your heart for a long time. I would admit, I dreamt of it a few times. Yes, I am that obsessed. It is a book that is brewed (0_o) perfectly to suit anyone’s taste of pure fantasy addiction. The plot is amazingly woven as if to say, “I will get tastier and more colorful in the next book. Remember me.” One of the strongest assets of this book (aside from the fey boys) is the setting. Nevernever is Wonderland stretched to its full potential. A thing you should do is get lost in this world, in this book. Because, seriously, it’s freaking worth it. This book was probably one of the best I had ever read. Meghan's POV. Everything in the book is perfectly described in detail and it is guaranteed to blow you away to a world where faeries abound every secret places, where "Thank you" is considered putting yourself in their debt and favors must always be repaid. The author wrote the book magically, letting you feel the character's emotions and you can almost visualize what they feel, see, smell, taste and hear.

The characters are unbelievably appealing. Strip away all the glamour and voila! There you have a very enviable heroine surrounded by two of the most delectable boys in YA history. Pardon me if I focus more to the guys, my only sin almost everyday is being a fangirl. Ash and Puck are two males that are undeniably equal for me. Equal I say? It’s because even after one year (being given the opportunity to review now) of obsessing the simple question “WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE?” I still haven’t got a direct answer from my inner subconscious. Even though I admit I fangirl over Ash more than Puck but it’s because I’m such a go-with-the-flow person. I mean, I so totally think the two of them are both HOT. In their own unique and smexy ways. And my oh-so-witty-and-sarcastic Grim’s dialogues always make me laugh so hard (the biggest understatement of the year) If all cats would be like Grim, this world will be EPIC. The ending will leave you craving, rolling on the floor, scratching the days on the calendar, itching every hour, for more.

Overall, The Iron King makes other books pale in comparison (well, a few escaped but whatever…) It is romance and adventure at its finest. I am confident to tell you that if you still haven’t read this, YOU’RE MISSING, I don’t know, half of your life? LOL.

Thank you for bearing with me, guys.

Nevermore (Nevermore series#1) by Kelly Creagh

Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

His life depends on it.

Im so sold!
Does anyone of you have read the famous The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe? Or any book of him? Not me, I havent, but because of this book I added it in my pile. And because of this book did I google Poe's death and was amazed how mysterious it really was. I loved how he became part of the story and his poems that was used here was just beautiful. This book was such a fun and interesting read that sucked me in from the very beginning. Im sure most of you have already read this so I don't think there's so much left for me to say other than ITS FREAKING AWESOME. I must admit, that the first thing that got me into reading Nevermore was the title itself. I loved it, dont know why but i do. Next, was the premise. It was really intriguing, I mean really cheerleader and goth boy? Plus Poe? Hooked!

Plot was very original, atleast that's what I thought. Its unlike anything else Ive ever read before. A stories from a dead author's books came to life?
Amazing.

The dark and mysterious events sets a foreboding atmosphere that was totally gripping. I guess I can say that it was unpredictable, didnt know what's going to happen next until I was right there on that spot.  I loved all the characters, in their own unique ways. The romance of Varen and Isobelle was so intense. The only issue I have for the story was some unnecessary details included. Like Isobelle going upstairs had to take her 2 pages before she can reach the top and finally opens the door. But other than that, it was such a lovely read. And man, the ending, it was freaking good. It was both heartwrenching and hopeful. I loved Varen eeep.

The author did an amazing job in writing a story like this, I thought it was very clever and creative. I can't simply wait to read the second book. Though it took them 2 years to have the second book, dunno why but Im just happy that it will be this year! yay.

Book 2 will be out on August baby!

Oh, holly alien babies everywhere...
Are you ready for more breathtaking ride?

Move aside you sexy charming vampire, make way for the hot infuriating, boy-next-door alien.
I think I loved this book more than the first one. So anxious when I started reading Onyx because some of the sequels I've read lately are just a let-down compare to their predecessors. But this book was pretty darn good. Not only there are more new characters added but also we will be seeing a different side of Daemon that we don't see often or rather we never saw in Obsidian and as always, he CRACKS me up. I loved it when he calls Blake wrong names like Flake, or Boris or Baff just to annoy Katy, or was it because he was jealous? Oh! I hear you ask, is there a love triangle? Hah! I will never tell.

A storyline that is both intriguing and bursting with humours. There are more surprises in store for fans of this amazing series. I bet you couldn't wait to know what those are? I was reading this book in an ungodly hours, the story just flowed along well and just couldn't put it down. The sizzling romance and revelations are just simply irresistible. The main characters got stronger and has more depths than ever. Katy is such a very enjoyable narrator/heroine/protag. She definitely grown more mature since the first book and I loved loved loved reading her thoughts, she felt so real and sensible and a kickass. I was emotionally connected with her. Now lets talk about Daemon, hmm yummy sexy Daemon. Dont you just loved it when this bad-arrogant-douche-face-guy shows his other-side of pure angelic sweetness?

*curls up in bed and dies*

The chemistry between them was steamy, fascinating and hilarious at the same time, they still bicker and insult each other. Their relationship is charged with so much tension that you will be squealing inside.

Once again, Jennifer has yet proved  that her talent is pure epicness, this book is simply amazing, left me astounded and frustrated at the same time(in a great way). The ending was.. the ending was.. it was a WTF-moment for me! I can hardly wait for the third book. I hate this nailbiting-season and shit.

Overall, loved this book, glad I stuck with this series, and I have a good feeling that the third book will be freaking good as this one. I have a big fat guess on what is going to happen next but it's only a guess, and If I am right, its going to be insane! *zips mouth*

"Memories, even bittersweet ones, are better than nothing, you know?"
I closed my eyes. That kind of love shoul've been able to beat sickness. That kind of love should've conquered anything.

Definitely worth the read. I couldn't help but giggle inside. Really enjoyed this short story! If you haven't read the Storm yet which is the first book in the series, this prequel will introduce you to Michael and Emily and a great start for this series. I was gutted that I finished it shortly after reading it on my way home(on the train). I just cant wait for Storm( I have it here already luckily pfffft), I swear this brothers are so intriguing, and the storytelling was freaking awesome.I liked Emily on the spot. She's funny and cute and gutsy. Loved her. Hopefully I will continue to love her when I read Storm.

I also loved the feel of "Romeo-and-Juliet-doomed-love romance here"- feuding familes and busting the guy and stuff. So I liked the risk that they were doing. I cant wait to find out where this story is going to go. Although it was short, it has juicy details and interesting plot.

So freaking sad when this book ended! I just want more. I loved this book and its totally one of the great books I've read this year.

No. Scratch that.

This is one of the great books I have ever read.

Dark and gritty. Masque of the Red Death has a very interesting setting, as messed up and scary as it was, I had a strong desire to be there and join their adventure.  I also want to relive that steampunk feel again. I loved the idea of masquerades, masks, glitters and corsets , its just pretty mysterious, sexy and alluring.

I am greatly fond of Bethany's writing, it's strikingly fabulous. The prose has such great details that I could visualize it. She also knows how to make her readers care for the characters, and boy did I care so much. The story is on a first-narrative mode so I thoroughly enjoyed reading Araby's thoughts. I totally connected to her, especially on emotional level, yes I do, because I don't know what I'll do if that happens to me too. I felt her pain, her desperation. I was captivated by her tragic and complicated personality. She is such a great leading character as flawed as she could be. Aside from Araby, the rest of the characters were great. And ofcourse, boys! Where's the fun without these hot, confusing boys? Damn! I am a sucker for romance,  that can lift me off my feet and leave some big grin on my face. So we have two boys here, at first I was all for Will- sweet charming guy with tattoo- ( I swear Will name is just so effing adorable that I would name my first born son Will! ) but it kind of shifted in the end and I was all over Elliot- an arrogant, noble and passionate guy- but this is a series so I cant really tell which team I am at the moment so we will see. The author is crafty with the love triangle here, I admit that I enjoy the nature of love triangles, it makes the story interesting, wondering who is who and feeling frustrated because sometimes its not easy to choose who to root for.
The torture!

There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you gripped. The plot thickens throughout the story. The idea of contagion and Red Death spreading in the air is just terrifying with only a mask to protect you. I was reading this book with fervor. I loved the ending, it made me feel satisfied but scared at the same time, I cant wait to read the second book, how am I going to wait that long? Aaaarrgghh! *nailbites*

Overall, what do you think? Ofcourse I FREAKING LOVED IT. So00 many stories like this  (dystopian/post-apocalyptic) out in the market these days so I'm really happy to have found this amazing book in a very crowded genre.

You have to remember that there are reasons to live, and that at least a few people are decent, and that the world is worthwhile some of the time okay?
Time will temper the hurt

Night Beach by Kirsty Eagar

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Imagine there is someone you like so much that just thinking about them leaves you desperate and reckless. You crave them in a way that's not rational, not right, and you're becoming somebody you don't recognise, and certainly don't respect, but you don't even care.

And this person you like is unattainable. Except for one thing...

He lives downstairs.

Abbie has three obsessions. Art. The ocean. And Kane.

But since Kane's been back, he's changed. There's a darkness shadowing him that only Abbie can see. And it wants her in its world.

A gothic story about the very dark things that feed the creative process.

 My Rating: ★ ★

 Kane. Always Kane.
I cant really write a review about this without giving some away so if you would like to continue then go ahead and read at your own risk. :p It's more of characters review anyway.

This book started really good for me, but as I began to know Abbie deeper, the more I disliked her, well except her fondness for the poor dog. OK, I don't know if it was Abbie who's creepy or the scenes but I guess its both. Don't get me wrong, I like reading unusual, strange, creepy, and weird stories, but the protagonist just didn't work out for me. I know, I know this is about her obsessions, so I don't blame anyone, I should have known. It was annoying, this obsession, I don't know what she's seen on Kane but really I kind of think she's too dumb and too strange. She feels lonely but I think thats what she wanted, I guess. But I liked her sometimes, she made me snorts with her comments.

BUT, although I didn't like Abbie that much, and Kane whoever he is(that's because I dont wanna know him and also the lack of depth of his character did not help), it would have been great if it was Hollywood instead of Kane, he freaking killed the dog although not on purpose but It really made me sick. Like I've said I loved dogs, yes I know we cannot really avoid them being in one of those stories/books we read but that "fire" and "popping sound" thing description are just giving me a heart attack, that poor poor dog :(. They should have just left that part out, it did make me cringe. Anyway, I couldn't even picture Kane in my head, he annoys me because I tried to like Abbie but when its about Kane that's when I want to scream. I liked Hollywood and Pinty(even if it's invisible). And the rest of the supporting characters.

I really liked the writing style of Kirsty Eagar though, it's one of the things that kept me from putting this book down, it was unique and very engaging. I loved the suspenseful and intense parts too. You wouldn't be disappointed with that, it really gave me the creeps and goosebumps all over. The plot? hmmm, it could have been pretty good,  I must have been really tired from work when I read this but I just couldn't connect all the things that was happening with Kane to Abbie. And Abbie to her relics. I really want to know, if any one of you have read this please tell me. I guess I need to re read this one more time, maybe. But I am so sure that I would dislike Abbie all over again. For some reason, I am irritated with a main characters being too strange or a nutcase or just simply a damsel-in-distress , this book reminded me of Frost by Marianna Baer, ugh I hated that protag there.

Quotes:
"This is what I love about life. The UP. You can be completely down and out, and in the next you feel like you're flying, for no reason at all."
You cant rely on anybody being around for you, because things change.
Overall, an okay read for me, but could have been a lot better. Anyway, it's only my opinion, please do not let my review stop you from reading this book. Some really did enjoy this. If you like dark and mysterious and eerie story then I suggest that you read it first and see how you go.  It has some great details that I am sure you'd enjoy too.

Hopefully, Im making sense up there. Lol, if not then just ignore me. :) Had a long day so Good night guys. x

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Kayla is a 16-year-old girl who was adopted when she was little. She lives a normal life, with great friends, loving adoptive parents, and well... a not-so-great boyfriend. But the reason why she was given up for adoption was far from any usual reason. She was meant to be kept away from the Academy and anything else related to the supernatural beings that could hurt her.

Unfortunately for Kayla, it was only a matter of time before she encountered the creatures from the Otherworld, and there is just no running away from the beings that she can now see.

In trying to protect Kayla by keeping her away from the Academy, she may have just been put in even more danger.

My life had been pretty normal
 until that point.

So.. school field trip! Who would have thought
that would mess up my so-called normal life?

OMG. I never thought this novel would be so good. Since there's not so many good angels/Fallen angels stories out there, I was wary to read this but the author did an excellent job keeping me enthralled with the storyline the whole time. Dark, cute, alluring and a quick, nice read.

It's hard to tell you the summary of this book without telling you the whole lot, so that synopsis up there is enough I guess. So let's go straight to my review. The first half story was unpredictable. But then,  intentions and mystery are slowly revealed that kept me turning the pages. The paranormal elements and demon activity are intertwined with the plot. The characters were just amazing. Kayla is our narrator here, and I thought she's great, not stupid but flawed, totally normal for me. Loved reading her thoughts. I Loved the tension between Hunter <3, Kayla and Justin. I know what you're thinking, another love triangle, but that's really not exactly what's happening here. I can't really tell can I? You just have to read it to find out. All I can say is that romance was so well-played out. I don't think there was an instaluv here too, I thought the mutual attraction has basis and was gradually developed. Atleast, that's how I felt. Hunter, ahh, broody, mysterious with a dangerous vibe kind of guy, he is addicting! I was totally fangirling over this guy. And the ending, that last page made my heart melt.

Don't know why this book has some pretty low ratings via Goodreads but I like challenging myself and was so glad that I read this wonderful book. If you are up for paranormal romance story and doesn't read books based on their ratings, then I think you should really check this one out.  I can't wait to get started with the second installment. There were some additional characters that I would like to know more!

Book 2 is already freaking out!

The Water Wars by Cameron Stratcher

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Welcome to a future where water is more precious than gold or oil-and worth killing for

"Everything fell apart. That was the only constant."

I enjoyed reading this book, although I think it would greatly appeal to young ages (middle school ages 13-15yo).  It was really an interesting, realistic post-apocalyptic novel and will have you thinking that water is everything. Water Wars is a fast-paced story, message-wise and the premise is intriguing.

A young girl named Vera and her brother Will <3 (dont you just loved that name?) came to visit their friend Kai in his apartment only to find Kai's bodyguard's dead body lying on the floor, and that Kai was nowhere, he's been kidnapped, by who? they don't know, but they are yet to find out.. You see Kai has a gift, he can find water and his father drills for it. Vera and her brother Will decided to find and rescue Kai, but will they be able to?

The author created a world that is crazy and scary, "the world had run out of water. And countries were divided and wars erupted along their borders." People will kill for water. And boy did this book made me effin thirsty while reading it! ;) The only issues I have are the character development, don't get me wrong they are all likeable especially Vera I had some snorting moments with her, but there wasn't enough, or lacking a bit of depth to them, most certainly emotional. And the ending was a bit rushed, but otherwise a quick and interesting read. Also, Canada is one of the bad guys here. But I love Canada, I got couple of friends who lives there <3. And oh that cover is gorgeous isn't it? That water in her eye like lashes, beautiful, and her chapped lips was so like Vera. I'd give another half star for that cover and 3 for the whole lot since its  target are for young readers, I think they would really appreciate this one.

"Pirates don't steal." said Ulysses. "We make offers people can't refuse."
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"It means they steal," said Will.
Ulysses smiled.

 Question:
What is your favorite literary quote? Think about that ONE quote that speaks to your soul. The one you've considered tattooing onto your body or the one you've plastered all over the walls of your...um, heart?
I LOVE quotes. I loved quoting lines from the books Ive read and including them on my reviews, because it makes the story more interesting.  If I were asked what quote I would tattoo on my skin, I would put this one word. ASHES. This one word has so much impact to me.
